This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to provide a first aid response to a casualty. The unit applies to all workers who may be required to provide a first aid response in a range of situations, including community and workplace settings.
To successfully complete this unit of competency, you must perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) tasks in line with state/territory regulations, first aid codes of practice and Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) guidelines.
Note: The Safe Work Australia First Aid Model Code of Practice requires employers to ensure that their nominated first aiders attend training on a regular basis to remain current. The Code of Practice recommends that refresher training in CPR should be undertaken annually from the date of issue. First aid qualifications should be renewed every three years from the date of issue to maintain currency.
There are no entry requirements for HLTAID003 Provide first aid; however, Smart Nation Education will consider your demonstrated ability to complete all aspects of enrolment without assistance when determining your capacity to successfully complete this unit of competency.
Note: HLTAID competency standards require a level of physical ability needed to provide CPR and respond to an emergency situation where there may be risk to life. Due to the potential risk to health and safety where a nominated first aider, or worker with duty of care, cannot perform CPR and/or first aid to the performance standard, it is inappropriate for Smart Nation Education to issue a statement of attainment if you are physically unable to meet the assessment requirements.
If you attend a first aid course but are unable to meet the full requirements, Smart Nation Education may provide you with a certificate of attendance.
